5th edition

DESCRIPTION
The International Summer School restarts in 2017 with a new three-year project designed to mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The topic proposed for the 2018 edition regards the question of conflicts and of the process of reconciliation in a socio-political and historical comparative dimension, with specific consideration of the legacy of the conflicts in former Yugoslavia during the 1990s, and of the current situation in Middle East. The experience of dealing- with-the-past, such as in the case of a post Second World War Europe and Shoah, will be confronted with the political, social, juridical and psychological consequences of the recent conflicts, in the perspective of a spectre of radicalisation of new forms of fascism and right-wing movements within the European public space.
Open to the MA and PhD students, the School involves scholars and young researches from several European and regional universities, offering a platform for an intensive one-week training, and providing an excellent forum for unpacking the multifarious and heuristic potential of the concept and the practice of tolerance. Lectures and workshops will combine different teaching methodologies, giving the participants an extraordinary opportunity to deepen their knowledge about political, legal and social aspects regarding migration issues in the frame of an emerging European polity. The School will took place in East Sarajevo and Sarajevo, a part of Europe where the redefinition of borders and boundaries has been ongoing from the late 1980s, and the memory of forced migration due to the Yugoslav wars in 1990s is still vivid, which demonstrates the persistence of ‘rightlessness in the age of rights’.
